A collaboration with young people from St James Centre, North Birkenhead Development Trust in partnership with Wirral Borough Council & Creative Youth Development.
Over a three month period a group of young people from Birkenhead, inspired by Japanese Artist, Hiraki Sawa set about making their fantasy town. We talked about how their community would link to other towns and cities, how would they connect with the outside world and what buildings would be needed for the people who lived there.
This would be a place where anything could happen and anything could be created – sculptures made of wood and feathers, buildings decorated with photographs of rust and flaking paint and houses celebrating Beyoncé and Jessie J. The group went on to experiment with photography, drawing, colouring, origami and construction to create boats, trees, flowers, buildings and sculpture for their imaginary world.
